“It is very exciting that both Ontario Golf and Fairways magazines have selected Muskoka Bay as the Best New Course in Ontario, especially
when you consider the other excellent golf courses that were in the running,”
architect Doug Carrick said. “I think it is a testament to the vision and
commitment to excellence that owner Peter Freed and Larry Ungerman, his development partner, had for the project from
day one. The outstanding conditioning provided by Superintendent Chris Goodman
and his staff along with the excellent service provided by General
Manager Jeff Boismier and his staff all have
contributed tremendously to the success of Muskoka
Bay. I am very honoured to have been involved in such a great project and my
thanks go to Peter Freed for the opportunity to freely express our ideas.”
Ontario Golf magazine editor Ted McIntyre said, “What stands
out for me is the memorability of virtually every
hole on the course. There's distinction and individuality at every turn, all
woven together seamlessly through a sensational piece of Muskoka.
I can't wait for the completion of the clubhouse; perched atop the highest
point of the property, for there may not be a better venue in

At Fairways magazine there was a tie for first between Muskoka Bay Club and Coppinwood,
a private course designed by Fazio in Uxbridge. Both
courses received identical numbers of votes from the Fairways Best New Course
panel. In the closest vote in the six year history of the Best New Course
Award, both received four first place votes, three second place votes and one
third place vote each.
“Some people may be disappointed with a tie vote,” commented
publisher Peter Mumford, “but I think it’s a tribute
to two great courses and two very talented designers that our panel felt both
were deserving of the top award. Quite frankly we’ve never had a tie vote
before and don’t have a procedure for breaking a tie. Personally, I’m not at
all unhappy with a tie as both courses are spectacular in very different ways
and deserved to be so honoured.”
