Planning for a Sustainable Golf Course
By Doug Carrick of Carrick Design, International award winning, golf course designers and master / land planners.

Planning for a sustainable golf course is critical in developing golf course communities today. Identifying and protecting key sensitive site features and habitat areas early in the design process helps developers to establish credibility with regulatory agencies and planning authorities focused on sustainable golf course design. The overall image of a project can also be greatly enhanced with an environmentally sustainable approach to golf course design. Integrating sensitive natural features into open space areas or into non-play areas of the golf course is an effective way to create a sustainable golf course. Recycling of storm water in combination with the use of effluent water for irrigation purposes further enhances the environmental sustainability of the golf course.

Planning for a sustainable golf course enables the protection, enhancement and marketing of natural environmental assets, which is good for business. It builds greater respect and credibility within the local community and provides homeowners with a valuable resource to enjoy for many years.
